Royal Navy – Trident fleet faces stretched lifespan to help curb defence costs

The Herald – Britain is to try to stretch the operational lifespan of its four Trident missile submarines until at least 2035 to maintain its nuclear deterrent at minimal cost and risk.

Indian Navy – Russia delivers INS Sindhughosh to India

The Hindu – Russia has handed over the Kilo-class Indian diesel-electric submarine INS Sindhugosh to the naval crew after its complete modernisation at the Zvezdochka defence shipyard of Severodvinsk, in the White Sea.

US Navy – Navy considers sailors trained for close-quarters assault

Virginian Pilot – The “Dirt Navy,” if put into play, could thrust sailors into a domain long reserved for foot soldiers. The force, perhaps 800-strong, could be used in missions that call for close contact with hostile coastlines.
