Indian Navy – The upcoming joint naval exercises between India, Vietnam, and Japan which are designed to coordinate anti-pirate efforts in the South China Sea are felt by U.S. analysts to be interpreted by China in a negative light as they will be held in the region of the Spratly Islands, which China claims. This exercise should be seen as a counterbalance to China’s setting up naval and intelligence bases on Burma’s Coco Islands off the northern tip of India’s Andaman and Nicobar islands in the Indian Ocean.
